Established in 1998, the Shelby D. Gerking Fund was designed
to support the American Fisheries Society’s Continuing Education Program. Our
mission to strengthen the profession of fisheries includes ongoing workforce training
and continuing education. The fund allows AFS to provide high quality,
innovative, and impactful continuing education that is affordable and accessible
to fisheries scientists and technicians. Continuing education is offered
annually at the AFS Annual Meeting
and at regional conferences.
This program is named in honor of Dr. Shelby D. Gerking (AFS
President in 1986-1987), an early leader in the promotion of continuing
education opportunities for members.
