Build a Future: Support the Next Generation of Fisheries Professionals Donate to the Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program
The Hutton Program is entering into its 21st summer of inspiring and introducing the next, more diverse generation to the fisheries profession through a hands-on, paid summer internship. Students, known as “Hutton Scholars”, are matched and work alongside a fisheries professional for seven weeks during the summer. Hutton Scholars gain an awareness of conservation issues and the importance of healthy aquatic systems; participate in projects that benefit habitat restoration, protection, and management; and gain an understanding of what is involved in being a fisheries biologist and of the career opportunities available in the field. In addition to being involved in a wide range of projects within the fisheries science and management profession, students get to work alongside both seasoned and early career professionals currently working in the fisheries profession. These experiences give Hutton Scholars a unique experience that few high school aged students are able to participate in during the summer.
