1. The Hutton Program is in its 22nd summer of inspiring and introducing the next, more diverse generation to the fisheries profession through a hands-on, paid summer internship. Students, known as “Hutton Scholars”, are matched and work alongside fisheries professionals for eight weeks during the summer. Hutton Scholars gain an awareness of conservation issues and the importance of healthy aquatic systems; participate in projects that benefit habitat restoration, protection, and management, and gain an understanding of what is involved in being a fisheries biologist and of the career opportunities available in the field. These experiences give Hutton Scholars a unique experience that few high school aged students are able to participate in during the summer.
